Background and History

HISTORY OF STO NIÑO ACADEMY OF BAMBAN, INC. THROUGH THE YEARS

In 1958, Mr. Nemesio Gaviola opened a secondary school in Bamban. This was an answer to the need of the town people who had to send their children for their secondary education to the neighboring towns of Mabalacat and Capas. The school, a four-room building was constructed at the right side of the Catholic Church. It was called Holy Infant Jesus Academy.

After three years of operation, Bishop Emilio Cinense of the Diocese of San Fernando, bought the school from its owners and an additional two-story building with eight classrooms was build at the left side of the Catholic Church. Sisters from the Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Dominic were invited to manage the school. Mother Amada Sabater, OP was the first principal. There were seven classes in the secondary level with nine full-time teachers and 2 Dominicans Sisters serving the educational needs of the students. In December of 1962, the school was called by its new name Sto. Niño Academy of Bamban, Inc. in honor of the patron saint, the Sto. Niño. There were other Sisters from the Congregation of the Missionaries of Saint Dominic who served as principal of the school namely: Mother Dominica Lacson, OP, Mother Reginalda Falca, OP (1965-1969), and Sr. Irene Lapuz, OP.

In 1974, the school was placed under the newly created congregation of the Daughters of St. Dominic. Sr. Andrea T. Surop, OP served as the principal. After a year, Mrs. Nimfa Aniate, one of the pioneer teachers was assigned as principal and she held that position till 1985. Sr. Andrea Surop, OP stayed in Sto.
